Frequently Asked Questions

Why Eng Access?

Queensland's Professional Engineers Act 2002 requires that any professional engineering product or service provided for use in Queensland must only be provided by a suitable qualified and registered engineer. This Act is administered by The Board of Professional Engineers of Queensland. This requirement is to ensure a high standard of engineering exists in Queensland, including competent practice, ethical conduct, maximum economic benefit, and most importantly, the safety of the community.

Professional Engineer FAQs

Why should I join?

Simply, to access engineering jobs. Whether certifying a retaining wall, designing a lifting lug, or acting as an expert witness, Eng Access gives you direct access to clients needing to engage RPEQ services. The marketplace gives you the opportunity to select jobs that suit your interests, capabilities, and availability, while stripping away excessive business costs and corporate models.

How does Eng Access work?

Our secure platform enables clients to post engineering jobs, which are then distributed to appropriate experts within our network via an invitation to quote. If the job meets your skills and availability, you are able to submit a quotation directly to the client via the platform. If the client selects your quote, a contract is then formed, and you can begin working on the job.

How much does it cost to join?

Eng Access is free for Professional Engineers to join.

How quickly can I get paid?

When an invoice is raised through our platform, the standard billing period is 14 days, unless agreed otherwise with the client.

How do I get paid?

Once an invoice has been approved by the client, funds are deposited into your nominate bank account.

Eng Access will correspondingly issue the Professional Engineer an invoice for our fee; this fee is 5% of the total job value.

What if I need assistance from another Professional Engineer to do the job?

You are welcome to invite your colleagues to join Eng Access, provided they are RPEQ-certified.

In the near future we hope to include a new feature to enable Professional Engineers to collaborate with colleagues registered on the platform, and provide a quotation on that basis.

What if the Job or Project is extended or the Client wants me to do further work?

It is not unusual for the scope of work to be extended, or a client wishes to engage a Professional Engineer for further work. Project extensions like this can be easily managed through our platform by simply posting a new job. Our terms and conditions do require that any follow- on work related to the initial job or project be engaged through our platform.

What is my likelihood of getting a Job or Project?

We built Eng Access because we recognised that there is a need for RPEQ services, but no efficient way of matching certified engineers with clients. Because we strip away overheads and red-tape, quotations provided through the site should generally be 10 to 40% less than traditional engineering firms. We believe Professional Engineers have a good chance of accessing work via the platform!

Can I provide my own contract to the Client?

Yes – you can provide your own contract to the client, or similarly, the client may provide their own contract to you. However, in all cases, both the Professional Engineer and the client must accept our Terms and Conditions, and be a party to a contract with Eng Access.

Does Eng Access provide any insurance cover?

At this stage, Eng Access does not provide any insurance coverage. We encourage all of our Professional Engineers to have appropriate insurance policies for their own, and their client’s, protection.

Does Eng Access provide any professional engineering service or engineering advice?

No – the Eng Access team does not provide professional engineering services or engineering advice.

What about confidentiality?

All Professional Engineers and clients enter into a confidentiality agreement when registering with Eng Access. We treat confidentiality very seriously, and also adhere to the same principles of confidentiality that we expect of our users.
